My former aviation mentor and boss, Bob Greer, is back from his adventure at ‘Joe Nall Week‘ and has filed the following Event Report for me to share with all my FlyBoyz readers…Thanks, Bob!
Here is Bob’s report:
I‘m back from Joe Nall and finally catching up with things here locally.
I’m glad the visit was on my Bucket List, it was a really great experience! I will say that there was never a dull moment, I can say that there were many moments of sensory overload.
We set up our pole sun shades at the float fly lake, so we could sit in the shade and watch constant flying from our seats. Aircraft prep, take offs, maneuvers, landings, touch and goes and yes, more than a few crashes. There was a retrieval pram which also had entertainment value. So there was never a dull moment.
All the while we were enjoying the above, we were entertained by the sound of continuous flying of gas turbine powered models (up to 7 ft. span) and piston engine scale of all sizes, including 2 ea. 1/2 scale Fokker tri-planes. This was all taking place behind us with the take offs about 1/4 mile away.
There were other venues such as dedicated electric models, sailplanes, and 3D fields all operating. I saw all of these, but some how missed the helicopter field. Oh well you can’t have everything.
We only had 1 & 1/2 days of un-flyable weather.
To put it all in perspective, there were over 1,400 pilots registered. By the way, I was one of them, although I was not in their class, but did manage to make 2 flights and 3 touch and goes from the lake, and did not need the pram to retrieve my Cub.

and the boat/floatplane shot is part of a show stunt at the lake, during its maiden flight.
The really great part was the companionship with the buddies and seeing bunches and bunches of aircraft flying.
I enjoyed the event and the people and the food in the local restaurants.
It was a great item for “MY” Bucket List and I enjoyed it very much.
