While in Delaware over the Memorial Day weekend, I paid a visit to the Delaware R/C Club‘s (Delaware RC) flying field located at Lum’s Pond in Bear, Delaware. I lived in Delaware from 1980 – 1986 and paid several visits to that flying field while living in the area. My visit to Delaware this past weekend was a good chance to check out the flying field once again and it also gave me the opportunity to let my friend, FlyBoy Rick Houtz, take to the control handle for a couple instructional flights with my control line Super Clown.
I have put together a brief video which documents our visit to the flying field with views of the field and planes followed by video clips of flying my control line Super Clown while giving Rick flying lessons. One of the enjoyable things about this flying session was that both our wives accompanied us and were able to enjoy with us the planes, the flying, and our flight antics. Pay particular attention to the last segment of the video which depicts our humourous transition of the control handle from myself to Rick with the plane airborne. The first ‘transition’ was just a practice run with the second ‘transition’ resulting in a successful hand-off.
The Delaware R/C Club play’s host to the annual ‘Warbirds Over Delaware‘ event which has drawn national attention and participants. This year’s event will be held on July 6-9 at the same Lum’s Pond flying field depicted in this FlyBoyz post. The following graphic gives details about the event. I won’t be able to attend this year but I’d encourage all who can to attend!
