A year ago, I published a FlyBoyz video post titled Jetman! about Yves Rossy and his amazing flights strapped to a jet-powered wing.
Over the years of his career, Rossy has used around 15 prototypes of the jet-pack, invented by him. Using joysticks tapped into his hand grips, Jetman – who once piloted Boeing 747’s for Swiss International Airlines – can travel at a speed of over 124 miles per hour, even while loaded down with some 120 pounds (55 kg) worth of wings on his back after jumping out of a plane at the height of 2,100 meters (7,000 feet), then free falling to gain speed, and then starting the flight itself.
Rossy’s flights usually last for about 15 minutes, and cover over 50km.
“Jetman is the culmination of over 20 years of innovation and has resulted in achieving my personal dream to fly free, soaring through the sky,” Rossy told reporters, as quoted by Forbes.
In December, he flew a remarkable formation with an airplane over Dubai.
After jumping from a helicopter over a desert, Jetman soared over Dubai with the help of his four-engine wings, performing aerobatic moves controlled by his body movements.
Recently, the legendary aviation enthusiast Rossy introduced his protégé, 31-year-old skydiver and base jumper Vince Reffet.
Award-winning Reffet became the second person in the world to be granted the honor of flying the Jetman wings.
“To fly alone is great, but to fly with another guy is greater,” Rossy said.
Now, a new 4K video has been shot over Dubai, as ‘Jetman’ Yves Rossy and his partner soared into the skies. The awesome footage represents the first world record the two set together: a twin human formation flight.
The Dubai flight is the latest achievement in Jetman’s long list of adventures. After flying over the Swiss Alps in 2008, Rossy has also crossed the English Channel and traveled above the Grand Canyon and Rio’s Christ the Redeemer. Jetman also flew over Mount Fuji in Japan last year. Rossy and Reffet reportedly plan to perform more tandem aerial flights and Rossy promises “the best is yet to come.”
In this video, shot in 4K definition, I don’t know which is more spectacular…the flights of the Jetmen or the scenery of Dubai! Enjoy both!!
