The Syracuse Thunderbirds Aero Radio Society (S.T.A.R.S.) held their annual auction last night at Walt’s Hobby Shop in Syracuse. Attendance was good and the bidding went on for more than an hour and a half. Besides being an annual fund raiser for the club, the auction is also a good opportunity for modelers to get out in the middle of the winter and mingle with other modelers.
For me, the best part of the night was when, after having garnered no bids (not even a dollar!), the owner of a rather ‘unique’ looking model plane generously donated it to one of the young boys who was in attendance. After the auction, the boy was positively beaming as he carried his new found pride and joy around. This small act of generosity may have just secured another modeler for the future!
The auction was a fun event and I will make plans for attending again next year…only with money in my pocket the next time!
Here are a few photos from last nights event:

This Yak was one of the fine looking radio control models up for bid.
Before the auction started, there was a good size crowd checking out the items that were up for sale. Here was a part of the pre-auction scene.
Even Snoopy was up for sale! Here he sits in his Balsa USA Fokker Eindecker fighter plane waiting for his turn on the auction block.
Snoopy and his Eindecker on the block!
I did not actually bid on anything during the auction but I did make a contribution to the club in exchange for this control line handle.
